With that in mind, we recommend lawyer Jim Pikl of McKinney over William "Randy" Johnson, a solo practitioner from Plano. While each faces a steep learning curve if elected in November, Pikl seems better prepared for the rigors of this busy appeals panel, which handles civil and criminal cases sent up from trial courts in Dallas, Collin and four other North Texas counties.
