As they choose between popular council candidates Jennifer Staubach Gates and Laura Miller, voters in northwest Dallas could also pick the next mayor.Even in routine election cycles, northwest Dallas' District 13 generates more votes than any area in the city, and candidates that perform well in the district and other parts of northern Dallas generally win elections.For the May 4 mayoral election, District 13 has even greater importance.Miller's challenge of incumbent Gates — the daughter of Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach — is the marquee contest on the ballot, even though nine contenders are vying to replace outgoing Mayor Mike Rawlings.The reliable northwest Dallas voters don't need much motivation to show up at the polls, and the Gates-Miller matchup assures a greater-than-normal turnout.  Continue reading...
