Sign up for our newsletters here.Texas Tech University police officer fatally shot, suspect in custodyA Texas Tech University police officer was shot and killed Monday night at the police department's headquarters in Lubbock, the school said.Texas Tech police made a welfare check at a student's room earlier in the night and found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia, university spokesman Chris Cook said.When they brought the student back to the campus police station in the 400 block of Flint Avenue for a debriefing, the student reportedly pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head, killing the officer, he said.Police were searching for Hollis A. Daniels, a 19-year-old freshman, in the shooting. The campus was placed on lockdown and people were encouraged to take shelter while police searched for Daniels.
