Texas Man Stabbed His Nephew's Dog Because It Killed His Chicken Last Year, Authorities Say

A Central Texas man stabbed his nephew's dog in retaliation for the dog killing his chicken last year, authorities say.Owen Jay Pettit, 45, was arrested Saturday on a charge of cruelty to non-livestock animals. He has since bonded out of the Travis County jail.According to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by the Austin American-Statesman, Pettit's 28-year-old nephew told Travis County authorities that he could hear his dog, Jess, yelping and barking around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.The nephew — who lives in another home on the same property in the 13700 block of Cedar Ridge in Leander — said that he found his uncle pinning Jess to the ground. Pettit then plunged a steak knife into the dog's shoulder his nephew yelled at him to stop, the newspaper reported.The dog limped off, knife still in her shoulder, after the nephew yanked Pettit off of her, according to the Statesman.  Continue reading...
