Scammer Impersonating Oncor Employee Trying to Steal Social Security Numbers in Arlington

At least one scammer posing as a utility employee went door-to-door in Arlington today, trying to convince residents to hand over their Social Security numbers, an Oncor spokesman said.A description of the man or men wasn't immediately available nor were details about the neighborhood targeted, said Oncor spokesman Geoffrey Bailey. The scam was reported to Arlington police.The man involved told residents that Oncor had taken over electricity billing from TXU and needed the customers' personal information. The person was wearing a fake Oncor name tag.A few of the targets called the Oncor customer service phone line to ask about the claims.In the past week, there's been an increase in scams using the Oncor name.
