Rowlett Tornadoes, Rio Triumphs, Dallas Tragedy, President Trump: Relive a Tumultuous 2016 in DMN Photos

LETTER FROM THE EDITOROver the last year, the photographers at The Dallas Morning News have been working hard not just to give voice to and illustrate the stories that appear in print and online but to share the intangible: feelings and emotions. Our talented photojournalists have captured moments of great success, heartbreak, compassion and sadness. Some of the photos might be iconic, such as Ting Shen's image of a DART police officer receiving a hug in the vestibule of Baylor University Medical Center on the night of July 7. Others may feel fresh to you, like Vernon Bryant's photo of Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott leaping over Chicago Bear Chris Prosinski. Or Smiley N. Pool's work from the political conventions and the Olympics, which captured soaring triumphs and crushing defeats.Throughout the year, each member of our team has given you slices of daily life with engaging, powerful images. The shots are compelling and thought-provoking. Some will take your breath away; others will make you smile, or even cry. The work on the following pages is from an esteemed group of photojournalists: Andy Jacobsohn, Ashley Landis, David Woo, G.J. McCarthy, Guy Reynolds, Irwin Thompson, Jae S. Lee, Louis DeLuca, Nathan Hunsinger, Rachel Woolf, Ron Baselice, Rose Baca, Smiley N. Pool, Ting Shen, Tom Fox and Vernon Bryant.Great work, team!Marcia L.
