Perry, Nodding at NAFTA, Says U.S. Ties to Mexico, Canada Have Never ‘been More Important'

WASHINGTON — Energy Secretary Rick Perry on Monday stressed the need to "develop a North American energy strategy," saying that the U.S. relationship with Mexico and Canada has never "been more important."That collaborative tone stands out as the White House works to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement, which President Donald Trump has called the "worst trade deal ever."Perry told reporters that Trump was "wise" to rework the deal, citing the evolving landscape of the energy sector as a good example. The former Texas governor, who has deep ties to industry, noted that "there may be some things that over 25 years may be a bit antiquated."Perry, however, took a decidedly less combative approach than Trump has in sizing up America's neighbors."We have a unique opportunity in this country to develop a North American energy strategy to... strengthen the bonds that hold us together in a way that we haven't seen in a long time and maybe ever," he said.  Continue reading...
