Mesquite Student Arrested After Bringing Gun to Poteet High School, Police Say

A student was arrested Tuesday after police said he brought a gun to Poteet High School in Mesquite.The gun was discovered after students notified a school official, police said. A school resource officer confronted the student and found the handgun.The gun wasn't loaded, according to KDFW-TV (Channel 4), and no threats were made toward the school or students.The student, who wasn't identified, was charged with carrying a firearm on a school campus, police said.In a written statement, Mesquite ISD praised students for notifying a school official."We are very grateful to the vigilance of students and parents in this matter," the district said on Twitter.  Continue reading...
