McCaul Is `ideal Choice' for Homeland Security, Says Rick Perry

WASHINGTON -- President Trump has yet to pick a new homeland security secretary, a glaring vacancy as the Gulf coast reels from Hurricane Harvey.One of the two Texans often named as contenders for the post, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, reaffirmed Wednesday that he's not in the running. And he said the other, Rep. Michael McCaul, remains interested and is still very much under consideration by President Donald Trump.More to the point, the former governor called McCaul, an Austin Republican who chairs the House Homeland Security committee, "ideal.""I'm biased. I happen to think he would be an excellent choice," Perry said by phone. "I think he's smart. I think he's capable. I think he's from Texas and understands the whole border issue very well.
