Man, Woman on Trial at Same Time Face Life Without Parole for Role in Deadly Dallas Home Invasion

In an uncommon courtroom situation, a man and a woman are being tried at the same murder trial in a deadly 2016 home invasion robbery that targeted a man with "some money and some dope." Jayona Jones, 23, and Pedro Alarcon, 28, both face a capital murder charge in the the fatal shooting of 61-year-old John Horton in May 2016. Neither Jones nor Alarcon is accused of shooting Horton. Both face an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. They are being tried together in Dallas County because they were party to the same offense, prosecutors said. Defense attorneys for Jones and Alarcon said two brothers involved in the robbery were the ones responsible for Horton's slaying.The jury does not have to deliver the same verdicts for both.Jones and Alarcon were among four people who went to a mobile home park in the 3900 block of South Ledbetter Road in Mountain Creek on May 12, 2016, when Horton was fatally shot.
