Man on Trial for 8 Child Sex Charges Slits Own Throat in Johnson County Courtroom

A man on trial for eight child sex charges slit his own throat in a Johnson County courtroom Wednesday, and was given seven life sentences the next day.Donald William Keeling, 51, pleaded guilty Wednesday to four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and three counts of sexual assault of a child. Court records show he had also been charged with one count of indecency with a child by contact. Keeling was attending his trial in the 18th District Court when he used a small blade from a disposable razor to cut his throat shortly before 5 p.m., according to the Cleburne Times-Review.Johnson County Sheriff Adam King told the paper that Keeling likely snuck the blade through the courthouse's metal detector.Authorities took Keling to the hospital for stitches before returning him to the jail, where he was put on suicide watch, the Times-Review reported.Keeling had remained in the Johnson County jail since his arrest in the summer of 2018, court records show.
