Jeffrey Merwin Heller, a longtime executive at Electronic Data Systems, died Jan. 8 at his home in Dallas after a few months of illness. He was 79.While quickly rising through the ranks at the pioneering information technology company, Heller was "just as friendly to the janitor as he was to [founder] Ross Perot," colleague Richard Shlakman said.Shlakman, who worked as general counsel for EDS for years, said Heller set himself apart at the fast-growing firm as a driven and compassionate leader."He distinguished himself through everything that he did," Shlakman said.A memorial service is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas.Born on Christmas Eve 1939, Heller grew up in Tyler with his siblings.
