AUSTIN — Hundreds of protesters marched on the Capitol Thursday as part of a citywide effort that called on area immigrants to shut down businesses, stay home from school and work, and refrain from patronizing stores and restaurants.The march was part of a local "Day Without an Immigrant" effort that called on people to show the importance of immigrants to the city. More than 30 Austin restaurants had closed for the day as part of the effort and groups from several local high schools participated in the protest.In North Texas, hundreds of Dallas students staged walkouts and many Latino-owned businesses closed Thursday.
