Houston astronaut beats outer space recordNo American has spent more time in space than NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson. The Houston biochemist broke the record Monday with more than 534 days in space, and she's still counting. Well-deserved praise has come from around the country, including a congratulatory phone call she received aboard the International Space Station from President Donald Trump. And busting barriers is hardly new. Since her first space launch nearly 15 years ago, Whitson, 57, became the first woman to command a space station and her eight spacewalks are the most by a woman.
