Fort Worth Police Rescue Drowning Theft Suspect Who Fled Into Trinity River

Fort Worth police officers on Thursday rescued a fleeing suspect from drowning when he called for help while trying to swim away.The chain of events began about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, when officers spotted a man wanted on two felony theft warrants and tried to speak with him, Fort Worth police spokesman Buddy Calzada said.He began running from officers in the 4400 White Settlement Drive, and police lost him near the Trinity River, Calzada said.An hour and a half later, officers noticed the suspect hiding in high weeds near the opposite shore.Fire department officials used a boat to approach the suspect, who began swimming away. Then, the suspect began yelling “help.”Officers pulled the man from the water, and he received medical treatment, Calzada said. Police did not release the suspect's name.  Continue reading...
