Driver Shot, SUV Stolen After Dropping Trio Off at Garland Church

A man was wounded in a shooting Tuesday afternoon during a robbery in the parking lot of a Garland church, police said. Officers found the man about 4 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in the 1600 block of Axe Drive. The man, whose name has not been released, picked up three men in his black Cadillac Escalade and stopped in the parking lot, police said. When they got out of the SUV, one of the men took out a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The man attempted to take the gun away, but was shot during the struggle, police said. He was transported to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. The three men took the man's Escalade and fled. A detailed description was not provided.
