Driver of Stolen Pickup Crashes Into 3 Vehicles, Utility Pole in Northwest Dallas, Officials Say

The driver of a stolen pickup ran through a red light and crashed into three vehicles Monday afternoon in northwest Dallas, officials said. About 4:30 p.m., a highway patrol trooper attempted to stop a GMC pickup heading south on the Dallas North Tollway near Interstate 635. The trooper was trying to stop the driver because he reportedly failed to yield, according to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Public Safety.The pickup continued onto the I-35 Express lanes, took the Walnut Hill Lane exit and ran through the red light at the intersection of southbound I-35E and Walnut Hill, striking a Lincoln Navigator, DPS spokesman Lonny Haschel said. The pickup then hit two more vehicles that were stopped at the light before smashing into a utility pole, he said. The driver of the pickup, which was found to be stolen from Dallas, and a passenger were both taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, Haschel said. The driver of the Lincoln was transported with injuries not thought to be life-threatening to Parkland. The drivers of the other two stopped vehicles were not seriously injured, he said.
