DFW Business Reaction to Trump Immigration Ban … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

While President Donald Trump’s administration has pledged to improve America’s business climate, its sweeping immigration order has created uncertainty for big and small companies.Many in North Texas said they aren’t quite sure what to make of the administration’s temporary travel ban, and most who would comment said they are taking a wait-and-see attitude.The region is home to many big industries that have a multinational presence with significant numbers of international workers -- including technology, healthcare, energy.The travel ban restricts citizens from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the United States.After the ban was announced late Friday, it set off a wave of protests at airports around the country as travelers from those countries were detained. As many as 10 were stopped at DFW.Some large area companies, like Irving-based ExxonMobil, have business operations and major projects underway in countries that are affected by the travel restrictions.Yet while tech companies in Silicon Valley have been outspoken in opposition to the ban, companies in North Texas have had a more muted reaction, if they responded publicly at all.Mike Davis, an SMU professor who specializes in the intersection of government and business, said the uncertainty around the president's executive order could have spillover effects on the economy.
