Denton County Inmate Who Had Been Hospitalized Found Dead in Jail Cell

A 30-year-old woman was found dead in her Denton County Jail cell Tuesday morning, according to the Denton County Sheriff's Office.Stormye Murphey was booked into the jail on Sunday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury, according to The Denton Record-Chronicle. She was found unresponsive during a routine cell check two days later and pronounced dead at 11:46 a.m. Initial evidence indicates that she may have died from suicide, said Sheriff Tracy Murphree, but the Tarrant County Medical Medical Examiner's Office has not released a cause and manner of death. Murphey had a "medical episode" Monday and was transported to Medical City Denton, the sheriff said. He said he could not elaborate on the nature of the woman's hospitalization.She was released from the hospital hours later and placed alone in a cell in the jail's medical unit."We just wanted to monitor her medical condition," Murphree said.
