Dallas-Fort Worth Parents, Here's How You Stack Up to Your Back-to-school Shopping Peers

When it comes to preparing more than 1 million North Texas students to go back to school next month, Dallas-Fort Worth parents are pretty average this year.Local households plan to spend about $517 compared with a U.S. average of $519, according to a new survey from Deloitte.But D-FW parents also said they plan to spend about 7.8% less than last year while spending plans nationally increased 1.8%."Don't read too much into that," said Kevin Lane, a principal at Deloitte in Dallas. "The difference is in how parents are spending — less on apparel and accessories, but that's really the only category. Plus, students are more interested in electronics."About 12.5% of D-FW parents surveyed said they plan to spend less than last year, and they were outnumbered by the 32% who said they will spend more.
