Church Damaged by Fire in Southeast Oak Cliff

The Union Hope Institutional Primitive Baptist Church in southeast Oak Cliff was damaged by a fire Monday afternoon, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. Firefighters were called about 3:20 p.m. to the church in the 2200 block of 56th Street, near South Lancaster Road.Two workers were inside the church when the fire started and both were able to get out safely, fire officials said. The fire was accidentally ignited when a plumber was working with a torch in the church's kitchen. Flames spread up the wall and into the attic before firefighters arrived, according to the fire department. The fire was extinguished in about an hour.   Continue reading...
