Over the last two years, a woman appointed to keep track of the money for a North Texas high school band booster club stole nearly $50,000, police say. Kirsten Meyer, 38, confessed to police that she spent the Alvarado High School band booster club's money on personal items and bills, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5). The club's former treasurer said she began taking money in 2015. Meyer also told police that the amount she had taken had become "bigger than she could handle." She repaid the Alvarado Band Booster Club $22,000, police said.Meyer faces one charge of theft from a nonprofit, a second-degree felony. The club, which helps cover the expenses of banquets and trips and has helped provide scholarship, was alerted to the problem late last month when its accounts were overdrawn, The Cleburne Times Review reported.
