Signs warning visitors that staff members "are armed and trained" have started popping up at the entrances and exits of Melissa ISD schools this week. But even though the signs are new, the policy that allows staffers to carry a gun on campus has been around since 2016. Any staff member in Melissa ISD can request to carry on campus, but must have a concealed handgun license and complete an "extensive active shooter training" to be applicable to carry.
