Allen Council Member Resigns, Will Face Incumbent in Collin County Commissioner Race

Allen City Council member Joey Herald has resigned to launch a bid for a seat on the Collin County Commissioners Court. Herald, who was near the end of his third term on the Allen Council, will face Precinct 2 incumbent Cheryl Williams, who was elected in 2010, in the March Republican primary. Williams, a former consultant, is one of the few women elected to city or county office in Collin County. Herald said the city of Allen has been ignored by Williams during her time on the Commissioners Court. He also said she has not prepared booming Collin County for the rapid growth that's expected to continue. Since 2000, Collin County's population has grown nearly 90 percent. At that rate, the county is expected to double in size before 2030 and surpass the populations in Dallas and Tarrant counties by 2050 with a population of more than 3.5 million.  Continue reading...
