29 Homes Evacuated, 175 Without Gas After Construction Crews Cut Garland Line

At least 29 families have been evacuated and about 175 are without gas after a construction crew cut a natural gas line Thursday afternoon. The crew cut the four-inch natural gas line about 12:45 p.m. in the alley of Larry and Parkmont drives, the Garland Fire Department said. Atmos responded and shut off the gas, but the escaping gas traveled along the sewer line and went into several homes in the area. The Fire Department is checking each house for natural gas and 29 homes have been evacuated so far. The evacuation is expected to last a few hours, officials said.
