11/17: Crowd Appeal

Old school R&B, a Dallas play and the "Beauty Killer"

THE MEN BEHIND THE BABY MAKIN’ MUSIC: Reality TV is the way to go if you’ve been off the radar for a while and want fans to know you haven’t kicked the bucket yet. Tonight take a trip back to the ‘90s as two R&B acts let Dallas know they are well on their way to making a comeback. R&B duo Cedric “K-Ci” Hailey and Joel “JoJo” Hailey along with Dru Hill perform tonight at the House of Blues Dallas. The brother duo has been flying solo since they split from the group, Jodeci (made up of the Hailey brothers and the DeGrate brothers) back in the mid ‘90s. Their new show on TV One, “K-Ci and JoJo Come Clean” lets the world in on all their alcohol-related drama as they attempt to revive their music career. Dru Hill, the four-man R&B soul group can also be seen on the small screen on BET’s “Keith Sweat’s Platinum House” (attempting to create a fourth album). See them both relive the glory days tonight at 8 p.m.

GET YOUR BUTT TO THE THEATER: If you haven’t seen the The Trinity River Plays – you’re missing out on a hometown play featuring homegrown talent. Written by and starring Regina Taylor (a Dallas native), the trilogy is set in Oak Cliff and follows the life of main character Iris Sparks on her journey through life from age 17 to 34 through three separate plays – Jar Fly, Rain and Ghost (story). The show opened on Friday and runs through Dec. 5 at the Wyly Theatre in Dallas. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m.

INTERNET MADE A RADIO STAR: Jeffree Star, the hot pink-haired transgender “Queen of the Internet” hits The Loft tonight along with DEV and It Boys. Star’s originality and outspoken charm seems to cross between Lady Gaga eccentricities and Kat Von D ink appeal with a bad attitude. The Vans Warped Tour veteran takes pride in breaking down barriers and building a cult following. Hear the “Beauty Killer” on stage in Dallas starting at 7 p.m.
