Texas Rangers starter Yu Darvish did well enough over the first month of his Major League career to earn AL Rookie of the Month honors for the month of April, but manager Ron Washington believes he could have carried away another title with his performance.
"He pitched well enough to win [Pitcher of the Month],β Washington said, per Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. βAt least he got something to show for his dominance. He deserves it. He pitched very well.β
Indeed, he did. Darvish went 4-0 in April, with a 2.18 ERA, 33 strikeouts and 17 walks. He lost out on the title of AL Pitcher of the Month to the Chicago White Soxβ Jake Peavy, who finished the month with a 3-1 ERA and a 1.67 ERA. Darvishβs first start of May will come this Sunday in Cleveland, as Texas wraps up a three-game set with the Indians.
