In an ongoing series, we'll take a look at possible free-agent and trade targets for the Texas Rangers this winter.
Target:Melky Cabrera, OF
2014 stats: .301 batting average, .351 on-base percentage, .808 OPS, 35 doubles, 16 home runs, 73 RBIs
The 30-year-old might finally get to cash in on a significant deal after two good years in Toronto that folllowed his PED suspension which caused his value to plummet. Cabrera just played out a two-year, $16 million deal and was a hitting machine with the Blue Jays.
The Rangers are going to be searching for a left fielder, even though they might fill the role internally with the likes of Dan Robertson, Jake Smolinski and Mitch Moreland. But a guy like Cabrera, at the right price, would really solidify the Rangers' lineup and given the extra bat they need.
