The fact that Colby Lewis was really good in a start in Oakland on Wednesday night was far from a surprise. In fact, of all the parks in the majors, there are only a couple in which Lewis has had success on par to that he's had in Oakland, and that was the case once again on Wednesday night in the Rangers' 10-3 win over the A's.
Lewis wasn't as great as he was the last time the Rangers played the A's, when the veteran righty took a perfect game into the eighth inning and ended up with a shutout, but he was still plenty good enough to give his team a win. Lewis worked six innings, allowed five hits and gave up two runs with three strikeouts and two walks.
That win was Lewis' 17th of the season — a remarkable number for a guy with Lewis' back story that includes a couple of elbow surgeries and a chronic hip condition that was fixed with an unprecedented hip resurfacing procedure.
Lewis is now sitting at 196 innings on the season, meaning he's almost certain to set a new career high for innings pitched as he'll likely eclipse that mark of 201 innings he set back in 2010. The next year, he hit 200 1/3 innings, and in both of those years the Rangers made the World Series.
