So Was Bruce Carter Benched?

Carter gave up two touchdown passes to Danny Woodhead on Sunday

The Cowboys believe linebacker Bruce Carter will be a fine player for a long time. But Carter didn’t show it so much in the loss to the Chargers on Sunday. The UNC product had eight tackles in San Diego, but he also allowed both of Danny Woodhead’s touchdown catches.

After that second touchdown catch, Carter was benched.

“I could have done a lot better on some of my coverages, staying on top,” Carter said after the game, per the Dallas Morning News. “There are no excuses. It’s my fault. I take all that, and I’ve just got to play better.”

Defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin wouldn’t be so harsh as to say that Carter was benched. He told reporters after the loss that Carter’s taking a seat was just a part of the rotation Dallas had planned on going in.

“It was hot out there,” Kiffin said. “We intended to play some guys. He did pretty good, really. Maybe he got beat, but it wasn’t like he got beat and, ‘Get him out of there.’ We don’t do that. We really don’t.”
