Phillips Believes Newman Will Play Sunday

Cornerback Terence Newman was held out of practice on both Wednesday and Thursday with strained ribs, but head coach Wade Phillips is confident that he will play Sunday against Jacksonville.

Newman suffered the injury in the first quarter of Monday night’s 41-35 loss to the New York Giants, but returned after missing only a few plays. The injury wasn’t thought to serious initially, but when the injury caused Newman to miss Thursday’s practice, Phillips admitted that he was concerned.

"Yeah, I'm worried about him," Phillips said, per the Dallas Morning News. “It's basically what he did in the game. He's just sore from the game. He played with it. It's hard to tell right now."

Hard to tell, maybe, but Phillips believes that Newman will play.

"All indications from him and our staff are that he will play," Phillips said. "That's what we're looking at right now. It could change."
