Jenkins, Ratliff, Holland All But Ruled Out of Preseason Opener

Jason Garrett was uncharacteristically forward in his assessment of the Cowboys’ injuries on Tuesday, saying that cornerback Mike Jenkins, nose tackle Jay Ratliff and guard Montrae Holland would very likely be held out of Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Broncos at Cowboys Stadium.

“Most of the guys who have been out will continue to be out,” Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas.

Usually, Garrett refuses to rule a player out up until game day if there is any reasonable shot of that player playing--meaning either that the aforementioned players aren’t really that close to returning (though this is doubtful) or that Garrett is treating the preseason as such. After all, Thursday will be Garrett’s first preseason game as a head coach in the NFL.

Jenkins is still recovering from a stinger suffered nine days ago. Ratliff (hip) and Holland (back) have been out since Saturday. These three, along with Tashard Choice (calf), DeMarco Murray and Keith Brooking (hamstring) will likely return to practice next week.
