Dallas A Likely Destination For Sharper?

Veteran safety Darren Sharper, who helped the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl victory in 2009, is scheduled to visit the Jacksonville Jaguars today, his first visit of the offseason.

If the Jags don't sign him, the Dallas Cowboys may be next in line, according to a source in contact with ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Sharper is 34 years old, and will turn 35 in November. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this offseason. However, his 2009 campaign makes a good case for him being among the elite safeties in the NFL.

Sharper intercepted nine passes in 2009--tied for the most in the league--and returned three for touchdowns.

Although Dallas--who released safety Ken Hamlin last month and did not draft a true safety last week--is among the most likely destinations for the five-time Pro Bowler Sharper, they are down on the short list, to some degree. Sharper has said he hopes to return to New Orleans, and, obviously, Jacksonville has expressed some serious interest as well.

If this week's visit in Jacksonville comes and goes, though, Dallas will be in the position to land the safety help it needs.
