Cowboys Shelf ‘The Razorback'… For Now

The wildcat formation, the hottest new offensive fad of the 2007-08 NFL seasons, is starting to remind us a little of that “Superman” dance everyone was so keen on a few years back--in that it was fun for a while, but now we rarely see or hear anything about it. This is especially true for the Cowboys’ incarnation of the formation, deemed the “Razorback,” as, to this point, it hasn’t been seen in training camp.

This could be due to the shortened offseason, the fact that teams have a smaller window this season to install offenses, jell as a team, etc. Or it could be that Tashard Choice, who takes the snaps in ‘The Razorback,’ is injured, sidelined with a calf injury.

In any case, Head Coach Jason Garrett doesn’t believe we’ve seen the last of the formation--just that it might be on the shelf for a while.

"I don't think it's retired," Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. "People have had asked me what the differences are between this year and past years. When you don't have those 20 practices in the spring, you have to decide what you want to spend practice time on and practice plays on. We haven't seen that yet because we're literally working on goal line today, working on some of the things that you definitely need in.

“Over the course of the next few weeks, hopefully we'll get some of those other packages in that have been good for us in the past."
