When Leigh Ann Rodriguez, a North Texas mother of five, started a weight loss plan, she realized she wanted to drop the pounds without dropping her life. So Rodriguez created a new drink mix that allowed her to do just that called the Smartini.

Rodriguez says the normal lemon drop martini has more than 350 calories, while her Smartini mix only has 82 calories.

Instead of using sugar or syrup, the Smartini uses the plant extracts, Stevia and Erythritol. Rodriguez says the mix started as something for her and her friends to drink at home, but it quickly grew into a much larger project.

"The line just kind of developed in the kitchen, I was making it for my girlfriends and they encouraged me to actually go to bottling," said Rodriguez.

The Smartini comes in nine flavors, including mojito and lemon drop, among others. Some local restaurants in Grapevine and Southlake have also started serving the drink.
