Plano-based JCPenney is opening six new stores in Texas designed with so-called "big and tall" men in mind.

JCPenney is celebrating a brand-new business designed to give men of stature a new place to shop.

It's launching six The Foundry Big and Tall Supply Co. stores in Texas.

The company is trying to turn shopping for men into an experience, not an elongated chore.

“That’s really one of his big frustrations -- the guy has style, but he’s really had a hard time finding clothes and brands,” said Steve Lossing, Foundry president, who oversees all six stores in DFW and four in Kansas City.

Plano-based JCPenney is opening six new stores in Texas designed with so-called "big and tall" men in mind.

All the stores are themed as microbreweries, so they feel like anything than a typical store.

“We were really going for the look and feel of a new place inside an old space, so the floors have a concrete feel to them. We have open ceilings,” said Lossing.

During happy hour, you can also get a free beer along with a tailored experience where one size isn’t meant to fit all.

When The Foundry did its research, it found that one out of every two guys classifies himself as big and tall.

“And as we looked at the research, actually, the amount of big and tall customers is supposed to grow by 25 percent in the next 10 years, but the population of regular-sized guys is projected to be flat,” said Lossing.

The company says clothing for men of stature is a $6 billion-a-year business.

The stores are stocked with various sizes such as 1XL to 6XL and XLT to 5XLT in sportswear, suits up to 54L and footwear from 10 regular to 16 wide.

If you can’t find your size in store, the company offers additional sizes online.

“They were really looking for a place that they said was a soup-to-nuts assortment, where they could get their sports wear, where they could get their tailored clothing, where they could get their athletic apparel and shoes,” said Lossing.
