Ah, Sephora.  (Cue trumpets, strings and singing birds.)

Featuring over 200 skincare, color, fragrance and bath and body lines, Sephora is a symphony of cosmetics virtuosos.  Nobody does beauty better, so when it came time to track down the hottest trends in make-up, we knew just where to go.

Today, Heather Hobbs, Color Lead at Sephora NorthPark, takes us on a magical tour of her favorite fall and winter picks for eyes, nails, gifts and more.  Grab a pen and your holiday checklist, ‘cause it’s time to get ready for the most glamorous time of the year.

Five Rules:  Fall and Winter Beauty Trends

1.  Ready for prime time.
Primer is a must to give make-up major staying power.  Smoothed on before your foundation, it evens tone and creates an ideal surface for building the perfect look.  Hobbs recommends Photo Finish by Smashbox (the primer that started it all), as well as Korres Face Primer for break-out prone skin.

2.  Lighter than air.
The pros know that airbrushing is the key to a perfect finish.  Hobbs loves the new and “super, super easy” Temptu AIRbrush Makeup System, developed by the name behind many of Hollywood’s famously flawless complexions.  Including a hand-held applicator and pods filled with lightweight foundation, blush and highlighter, the line has everything you need to pull off a high-definition look at home.

3.  Smoke and mirrors.
Opt for a dramatic, mysterious, femme fatale-style eye this season for parties and nights on the town.  Sound complicated?  It’s as simple as painting-by-numbers with Smoky Eye Palettes by Sephora Brand and Too Faced.

4.  Fashion at your fingertips.
Matte nail color is all the rage, and Sephora by OPI matte shades are right on trend.  When pulling off this look, however, Hobbs cautions, “Don’t use a base or top coat.”  (Either of these extra steps can add gloss.)  Instead, just smooth on Metro Chic, Domestic Goddess or What’s A Tire Jack? and you’re good to go.

5.  ‘Tis better to give.
Wrap up all these goodies and more for your favorite product junkie with kits like the LashStash Mascara Sampler, Lip Service Sampler and the ever-popular Sephora Collectors’ Edition.  The fact that these gifts are also a beautiful value can be your little secret!
