Wanted: Graffiti Artists

Friends of Dallas Farmers Market to sponsor graffiti art contest

This time, it’s not the Dallas Police Department looking for graffiti artists.

Friends of the Dallas Farmers Market are looking for some talented artists to showcase their talents for a chance to win $1,000 and a public showcase at the market.

“Our group was intrigued by a previous Public Graffiti Arts Project at the Trinity Wind Festival”, said DFMF President Debbie Bozeman. “The story of the four ‘taggers’ that were chosen for that project and how it led to an actual commission was inspiring. We thought the Dallas Farmers Market was the perfect location to provide a legal and marketable outlet for emerging graffiti artists and create an interactive experience for visitors to the Market.”

Four winning individuals or teams will be selected, based on artistic skill, originality, theme, and ability to engage the community.

Those selected will then be given temporary wall space inside the market to complete their project. Winners will be selected in late September and the public will be able to watch the artists completing their projects each weekend through October.

Artists are invited to submit samples of their work and a draft proposal, with winning entries displayed at the Dallas Farmers Market. For more information, visit their website.
