Kevin Cokely joined NBC 5 in July of 2000. He anchors NBC 5 News weekend evenings, Saturday at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Cokely can also been seen reporting throughout the week.

Kevin has over 20 years of experience in television news. He began his career while still attending college in Durham, New Hampshire. Since then, he has worked for television stations in Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

The recipient of 5 Emmy Awards, Cokely has anchored newscasts in Dallas, Atlanta, Cleveland, St. Louis, Greenville, S.C., and Scranton, PA. As a National Correspondent based in Washington, D.C., he traveled extensively and covered the White House, Congress, and the Pentagon.

During his award-winning reporting career, Cokely joined in anchoring breaking news coverage of the space shuttle Columbia tragedy over Texas, and reported on the September 11th terrorist attacks from American Airlines Headquarters. He has covered the Presidential Inauguration of George Bush, three National Political Conventions, the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, John Glenn’s Space Shuttle flight, and the Space Shuttle Challenger hearings. He has reported from Bosnia, Beirut and Moscow; the USS Theodore Roosevelt, and the USS Iowa; covered two Papal trips; the Three Mile Island nuclear plant accident; interviewed five U.S. Presidents; and served as an intern in the White House Office of Communications.

He graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.

Cokely has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics and other non-profit organizations. He currently serves on the Awards Committee for the National Academy of Arts and Sciences and represents the Lone Star Emmy Chapter as National Trustee.

He enjoys sailing, skiing, horseback riding and traveling with his wife, Karen.
