A Comcast service Twitter account, @ComcastWill, acknowledged the problem — widely reported across Twitter — and reported that engineers were working to correct the problem. Many customers were trying to get around the outage by changing their DNS settings. Google has a help page on how to do that.
At 10:20 p.m. ET, ComcastWill reported: "Engineers still working to resolve, unfortunately i do not have an ETA for the issue at this time."
It was not clear how widespread the failure was. Earlier reports suggested there were connection problems in the greater Boston region. The Baltimore Sun reported that Comcast service was out in Maryland.
