Young Fencer Gets Olympic Opportunity of a Lifetime

Sylvie Binder is going to Rio for the Olympics and taking on a special role

The best of the best of all ages and divisions are at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center for the USA Fencing National Championship and July Challenge.

That includes 17-year-old Sylvie Binder of New York.

Binder is competing this weekend in Dallas as one of the favorites in her class.

It's an important event, but she has eyes on the future.

USA Fencing and TD Ameritrade have recognized Sylvie's promising fencing career in a special way, by sending her to the Olympics.

In Rio, she'll be paired up with Mariel Zagunis, the most decorated American women's fencer of all-time who is making her fourth Olympic appearance.

It's a mentor/mentee program and the idea is to groom Binder's potential by having her experience what being an Olympian is all about.

Team USA has its eyes on Binder as an Olympic hopeful in the future.
