Texas Christian University head coach Gary Patterson says backup quarterback Trevone Boykin will be the starting quarterback at the Horned Frogs' Big 12 home debut Saturday, but contrary to previous reports fans will not see suspended quarterback Casey Pachall in uniform on the sidelines.
Pachall was suspended indefinitely after his arrest early Thursday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
A source with the football program tells NBC 5's Newy Scruggs Pachall will not be wearing his No. 4 purple jersey as the Horned Frogs play Iowa State game at Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday.
Star-Telegram's TCU beat reporter Stefan Stevenson reported Patterson said Thursday, "I'm not going to let him hide. He's going to be right out there with us; win, lose or draw." Patterson also said he wouldn't decide until Sunday Pachall's fate for the rest of the season.
The Frogs (4-0) were looking at Boykin as a tailback option since they've already lost their leading rusher to a season-ending knee injury and current starter Matthew Tucker is dealing with an ankle injury.
Boykin, from West Mesquite, has seen limited duty so far this season. He is 9-of-10 passing for 74 yards and a touchdown, and has run 12 times for 122 yards and a score.
TCU has won 12 games in a row.
