TCU Faces Another Winner-Take-All Game

Once again, TCU finds their back against the wall.

The Horned Frogs let a chance to clinch a spot in the championship series slip away Friday night, losing to Coastal Carolina 4-1 at the College World Series. That means that both teams face off again tonight in a winner-take-all elimination game, loser goes home.

Outside of an eighth-inning home run by Dane Steinhagen, TCU’s offense could never get anything going against Chanticleers starter Andrew Beckwith, who went the distance for the complete game win.

The Frogs aren’t too worried about the loss, knowing they have another chance tonight to move on to their first championship series in Omaha. They were facing a winner-take-all game against Texas A&M in College Station during the NCAA Super Regionals and walked away with a ticket to the College World Series for the third straight year. So this isn’t unfamiliar territory.

My Pick to Click tonight: I’m sticking with the hot hand, or should I say bat, of TCU designated hitter Luken Baker. That bat was cooled off a little bit last night, but Beckwith was that good, using multiple arm angles and keeping the Frog’s offense off-balanced. Baker has already hit a couple of big-time home runs in this series, including a solo shot in Tuesday’s 6-1 over Coastal Carolina. If the freshman gets going, the rest of the offense will follow.

Game time for the rematch is 7 p.m. tonight.
