SMU QB Matt Davis Declares For NFL Draft

Drops bid for sixth year of eligibility

Matt Davis decided not to wait any longer to pursue his dream. The SMU quarterback will forgo his sixth year of college eligibility and enter the upcoming NFL Draft. Davis will be represented by United Athlete Agency in Dallas.

The 6-0, 212-pound Davis tore his ACL in the season-opener against North Texas and missed the remainder of year. Prior to the injury, he played in 23 games for the Mustangs, starting 17 at quarterback.

Davis was a dual threat with a solid arm as the SMU’s signal-caller. He had 4,492 yards in total offense with 35 touchdowns during both the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Davis originally started his college career at Texas A&M before making a stop at the junior college level prior to arriving at SMU.

The NFL Draft begins April 27. Early indications have Davis going in the late rounds, possibly as a seventh-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles.
