NHL Cancels Hockey Season Through Dec. 30

First game, if a CBA is signed, is Dec. 31

The National Hockey League has canceled the 2012-13 regular season through Dec. 30.

As of Monday, no games will be played in the regular season before Dec. 31.

The league said the cancellations are necessary due to the absence of a new collective bargaining agreement between the NHL Players' Association and the NHL.

So far, a total of 526 regular-season games, or 42.8 percent of the season, have been canceled.  There are now 46 of the original 82 games left on the season schedule.

If a CBA is agreed upon and signed, the Dallas Stars first game would be New Year's Eve against the Nashville Predators.  The game is being played at American Airlines Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.
