TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes has been selected to Sports Illustrated's 2009 Preseason All-America Team.
Texas Christian University's defensive end Jerry Hughes has been selected to Sports Illustrated's 2009 preseason All-American Team.
Hughes was one of five finalists just last year for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, honoring the nation's best defensive player. He also lead the nation in sacks in 2008 with 15.
A consensus All-American last season, Hughes has already been named to watch lists for four major postseason awards: Walter Camp Player of the Year, Ted Hendricks Award, Rotary Lombardi Award and Lott Trophy.
Hughes grew up in Texas and attended Austin High School.
He is a senior at TCU, majoring in communications.
TUC is ranked 17th in the Sports Illustrated Preseason Top 20 poll.
