Bogar Will Find Work Soon

Tim Bogar was understandably probably not too happy when the Texas Rangers passed him over to hire Jeff Banister as their new manager last week.

After all, it was Bogar who was a part of last year's staff serving as Ron Washington's bench coach and then as the interim manager when Washington unexpectedly resigned on Sept. 5. Bogar went on to a 14-8 record and had the Rangers scorching down the stretch as baseball's hottest teams despite the fact they were playing several teams down the stretch who were fighting for their playoff lives, not just mailing in the season.

Bogar conducted exit interviews with the players and always talked like he was expecting to be named the full-time guy for 2015, and it's hard to blame him for that. But general manager Jon Daniels found someone he thought was even more deserving of the job than the deserving Bogar, and he went the Banister route.

Daniels and Banister reportedly met with Bogar and decided it'd be best if he wasn't retained as bench coach even though he's under contract for 2015. You'd have to think Banister has someone in mind he wants to serve as his right-hand man, and it's obviously not Bogar. They did offer Bogar a position elsewhere in the organization, presumably some kind of front office gig or as a minor league instructor, and Bogar said thanks but no thanks.

Bogar will find someone on someone's staff if he doesn't land a manager's gig. The only current opening is in Minnesota, and they seem set on Paul Molitor. With that said, Bogar will latch on somewhere as a bench coach and will be a hot managerial name again in a year. Just watch.
