Baylor to Name New Stadium for McLane Family

Baylor University says its new football stadium will be called McLane Stadium in honor of alumnus Drayton McLane Jr. and his family.

McLane, the former owner of the Houston Astros, is a 1958 Baylor grad and former regents chairman.

It was announced in March, 2012, that McLane's family had given the school the largest capital gift ever -- more than $20 million -- toward the stadium, which will open next season.

The sixth-ranked Bears make their first Bowl Championship Series appearance when they play No. 15 UCF in the Fiesta Bowl on Wednesday night.

The 45,000-seat, $260 million stadium is now under construction on a 93-acre at the intersection of Interstate 35 and the Brazos River. The McLane gift propelled the school to successful fundraising for the stadium.
