UNT Police Warn Campus of Potential iPhone Scheme

The UNT Police Department is warning campus about potential schemers asking students to purchase iPhones and take out cash loans.

According to a police report, a man approached a student near the Union bus stop Oct. 12 and told him about an opportunity to make money.

The student then got into the vehicle and was asked to fill out an application to buy iPhones. The man drove the student to an ATM, withdrew cash, drove to an AT&T store and used the application and cash to buy two iPhone 8s.

The men also drove to a payday loan business where the student was asked to open a loan. The student was returned to the area later that evening and given $50.

The man was described as black, 6 feet tall, thin and in his mid-20s. He was reportedly driving a dark Ford Mustang.
