Texas Trooper Hit by Fleeing Vehicle, No Arrests

A Department of Public Safety trooper has been hurt after being struck by the open door of a vehicle that sped away from a South Texas parking lot.

DPS Sgt. Elizabeth Barney said officers on Thursday searched for the driver following the incident near Rio Grande City.

Barney said the trooper on Wednesday night approached a suspicious vehicle and contacted the driver, who then tried to flee. Barney said the trooper was hit by the driver's door and suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

She said the trooper opened fire on the fleeing vehicle, striking the left rear tire. The vehicle was found abandoned about a half-mile away.

The name of the trooper and further details on his injuries weren't immediately released Thursday.
